The S-U-V caught fire at around 5:45 am near the Ohio Turnpike interchange one mile east of Bailey Road.
Troopers say the fire repeatedly ignited, backing up traffic to the Meander Reservoir in Austintown.
Troopers say the left lane of traffic was opened just after 7 am.
At 7:18, the Lordstown Fire Department was asked to dispatch a truck to put foam on the fire.
Traffic was still down to one lane at 8:13 am.
The state fire marshal has been called to investigate.
There have been no reports of injuries.
