Victims identified after double fatal crash on Interstate 76 near Lake Milton
Interstate 76 eastbound is now open several hours after a double fatal crash on Thursday afternoon.
The victims of a double fatal crash on Thursday afternoon have been identified.
The crash took place on Interstate 76 eastbound.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Kyle Kent of Austintown and 39-year-old Val Abkarjan of North Lima were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Kent graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 2016 and played football there.
His Coach Phil Annarella said it's tragic and a horrific loss. "Kent was a great football player and he was a hardworking young man. Worked very hard to perfect the skills and very team oriented and just a wonderful young man," Annarella said.
The Highway Patrol said the crash was reported on Interstate 76 eastbound just past Lake Milton before 1 pm when first responders called out for additional help.
Troopers said an F-150 pickup truck and an F-450 truck collided along the highway.
According to police, Kent was driving the Ford F-150 and Abkarjan was in his passenger seat.
Police said that the F-150 lost control and traveled into the grass median, where it then entered into the eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 and was struck by the Ford F-450.
The driver of the F-450 was unharmed in the crash.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 were closed for about three hours.
Officials said that the crash is still under investigation.
