A Hubbard Township mom was found guilty of nonsupport after her teenage children were allegedly seen by a neighbor eating dry salad dressing.
Authorities say 37-year-old Tammy Brendt pleaded no contest in Girard Municipal Court on Wednesday.
Police say a neighbor called them in June after she saw the 14 and 18-year-old boys eating ranch dressing. They told her they had no food in the house and their mother wasn't home.
According to the police report, the teens also told the neighbor their utilities were shut off at their home on Morningside Drive, meaning they had no electricity, natural gas or running water.
Officials say a caseworker from children's services was supposed to make a visit to the home, but the teens alleged Brent ignored his phone call.
Police say when they looked through the window of the home, they saw food sitting out that appeared to be rotting and trash throughout the living room.
There were also two dogs and a cat inside, according to police.
According to a police report, officers were then told by a caseworker that Brent was not coming for her children that night because she was afraid of being arrested and was allegedly staying with a friend that night.
Police say both teens stayed with a relative and the animals were taken by the humane society.
Brendt was originally facing charges of animal cruelty and nonsupport.
Brendt was found guilty of nonsupport. She was ordered to pay a $150 fine and comply with children services.
A judge dismissed the animal cruelty charges.
