The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office is investigating how thieves poked a hole through a cement wall and stole safes from the VFW Post in West Farmington.

Authorities said the incident happened just after midnight on Saturday when they said the thief or thieves poke a 42-inch hole in the cement block wall of the building on State Route 534.

The hole led right into a locked office, where authorities said three safes were stolen, including a safe that contained nine ceremonial N-1 rifles used for funerals and parades.

"They took two-floor safes that had nothing but money and records, and we're missing a gun safe that had our ceremonial rifles," said Bob Anspach, VFW Post 7200 Quarter Master.

Anspach believes the intruders were familiar with the layout of the building.

Authorities told 21 News there isn't any surveillance video of the break-in because the culprits knew where the cameras were located.

They said the outside camera was facing the sky and the inside camera was covered with a rag.

They estimate more than $10,000 was stolen from the VFW, money that is given to charity and local youth groups.

No one has been arrested.
