What's happening at the old Austintown Sheetz?

People driving by the site of the old Sheetz gas station at Mahoning Avenue and Route 46 in Austintown may wonder what's to become of the corner.
When Sheetz opened it's new location up the road at Route 46 near I-80 earlier this month, the business at the busy intersection in the heart of the township shut down and work began to demolish parts of the facility.
Township Trustee Jim Davis tells 21 News that the old location is in the midst of a $1.3 million renovation.
Some walls of the original store are being retained to become part of a new store based on a design similar to the new Austintown Sheetz, according to township zoning inspector Darren Crivelli.
He says gas pumps are being removed along with the Mahoning Avenue side of the site and will be replaced by parking and green space.
Pumps along Route 46 will remain in place.
Signs posted on the construction fence surrounding the project announce that Sheetz is hiring people to work at the new store.
Crivelli expects the project will be completed in October.
