The mother of three children from Struthers has been arrested for child endangering after allegedly beating her 11-month-old baby and flipping the playpen she was in.
Thirty-three-year-old Nicole Redeske of Katherine Street was booked into the county jail early Friday after being arrested on a warrant issued earlier.
She entered a not guilty plea Friday but remains in jail with a $50,000 bond.
The charge stems from a police investigation that began on July 9 when Redeske's 13-year-old daughter ran to a neighbors house claiming that her mother became angry when her 11-month-old sister knocked over a lamp.
According to a police report, the thirteen-year-old told police that the mom hit the baby on the arms and hands before flipping over the infant's playpen, causing the baby to hit her head.
An officer responding to the call said he briefly saw the mom holding the baby and didn't notice any obvious injuries to the child.
"From the reports that we've had there have been previous instances where we've had to go investigate," said Struthers Police Chief Tim Roddy.
In court Friday, Redeske denied there was any trouble at the home that night. In this case, Children's Services was going to follow up the next day but Redeske took the children and fled to Florida, where another incident was reported.
The police report says that a witness claimed to have video and images from the teen supporting claims that she and the infant were abused. Police told the witness to email the pictures to detectives.
The neighbor told police that the 13-year-old had come to his house on many previous occasions to get away from her mom. He said she called their house her safe house.
When police went to the family's Katherine Street home to investigate further, Redeske, her seven-year-old son and the infant were gone.
A children services caseworker who was supposed to meet with the Redeske the following day told police that she had fled to St. Petersburg, Florida with the children.
Police say while the family was in Florida, the thirteen-year-old daughter called 911 claiming that her mother had tried to strangle her, leaving marks on her neck.
The report says the Manatee County Sheriff is investigating and will file criminal charges.
When Redeske and the children returned to Youngstown on Thursday, she was placed under arrest.
The children were turned over to children services.
Redenske will return to court for a pre-trial hearing at a future date.
