Current and former city employees took the stand Monday in the public corruption trial of former Niles Mayor Ralph Infante.

Former Niles City Councilman Steve Papalas was questioned about city contracts that were approved while Infante was in office.

A member of the city's street department also testified about a day when he alleges Infante paid a woman for two generators and a power washer without going through city council.

Christopher O'Malley says the transaction took place in 2009 or 2010. He recalled the day when the woman showed up in a white four-door truck in the parking lot next to city hall and the street department with the items that he overheard were offered to the city for $50,000.

He said the woman asked then-Mayor, Ralph Infante, if the purchase had to go through city council and that the mayor allegedly replied: "It just did".

O'Malley says he was then instructed to take the items to the water and street departments.

The former and current city auditors were also asked to testify.

Last week, Phantom Fireworks CEO Bruce Zoldan was asked to detail the purchase of the OSU tickets. Zoldan said he bought $75,000 worth of tickets for the 2007 game and that Anthony Cafaro reimbursed him for several of those tickets.

Zoldan said he believed Infante attended the 2007 game and at one of his parties before or after the game.
