The process of finding someone to purchase the former Youth Development Center in New Castle is back to square one.
Troy Thompson, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Office of General Services, tells 21 News that the pending deal to sell the facility to Hira Educational Services of North America will not go through.
According to its website, Hira is a consulting firm based in New Jersey that provides services to Islamic schools.
Thompson says Hira will miss the deadline to pay the remaining 90 percent of the $400,000 purchase price needed to officially close on the property.
Controversy arose after some Lawrence County residents raised concerns over plans for the facility.
Asif Kunwar, founder, and CEO of Hira told 21 News that he was harassed and threatened after announcing his intention to buy the YDC in Shenango Township.
Thompson says the property will be put up for bid again, pointing out that anyone may place a bid and there is no time line for a sale.
