A spill of 1,700 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked from a derailed train engine has been kept from flowing into the Mahoning River in Youngstown, according to the Girard Fire department.
Hazmat crews and the Youngstown Fire Department were called out late Tuesday morning to the derailment in an industrial area along the border of Youngstown and Girard.
The train went off the tracks across the river from the Vallourec plant.
Reports indicate that none of the train cars were turned on their side, but the engine pulling them jumped the tracks.
There have been no reports of injuries.
