It's the toughest experience a parent could imagine. Losing a child at birth.

For one local couple, photographs helped preserve their daughter's memory and now they are sharing that gift with others through a non-profit called "Olivia's Grace."

It is named after Mark and Andrea Arnio's daughter, Olivia Grace, lost to a stillbirth in 2015.

"When we first lost Olivia, Andrea didn't know if she wanted to see her," said Mark. "I told her right then and there, well if you don't want to that's fine, but I have to. I'm never going to get another chance."

They found out the photography company the hospital uses actually took photos of Olivia, but getting their hands on them all wouldn't be cheap.

"It was going to be over $500 for us to have the rights to those photos," said Andrea.

"It wasn't a decision for us to spend the money to buy the pictures, but not everybody has that opportunity," said Mark.

"My first few weeks back from the hospital, I would sit in a chair and literally just take Olivia's pictures and flip through them one by one. But that was the tangible piece of her that I could bring home with me," said Andrea.

That feeling fueled this mission, giving other parents that photography for free.

Even though for Andrea, it meant reliving the past.  "The first family that we serviced, that I went and did, was on Olivia's birthday in the exact room that we delivered Olivia in. So to walk through that room. Having to put on the strong face. But again, knowing what I'm doing and being able to give those parents that gift got me through it," said Andrea. "That was my birthday gift I was able to give to Olivia."

That is the true beauty of Olivia's Grace; touching others like Jennifer Phillips, who lost her son in April.

"I got to hold my son for the first time. Those memories are starting to fade a little bit and the fact that I have these photos that I can go back and see that my son had curly hair and little features that he's got. He looks like me and he's got my husband's ears. It really means a lot to me," said Phillips. "He's not going to ever be forgotten."

Neither will Olivia Grace. More than just an album full of photos, a legacy that is making a difference.

Currently, Olivia's Grace only services the Mercy Health campus in Boardman.  Andrea and Mark are actively looking for photographers to try and expand the reach of this program. The charity gives bereavement photography to parents who have lost a baby, along with various stuffed animals and items used in poses with the child.
