The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the cruiser dashcam video of a Youngstown State University Police Officer being arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence.

Joseph Schialdone, 36, was pulled over on Tippecanoe Road earlier this month after a trooper saw his pickup truck run a red light on Route 224.

After giving Scialdone a ticket, the trooper can be heard on the tape saying that he smelled alcohol on Scialdone's breath, and asked him to take a field sobriety test.

Schialdone told the Trooper that he was a police officer and a combat veteran, and insisted several times that because he had already been cited for running the red light, he should be free to go.

The driver also denied that he had been drinking.

After still refusing to undergo the sobriety test, Schialdone was handcuffed and taken to the Canfield Post of the Highway Patrol for processing.

Schialdone has entered a not guilty plea and faces a preliminary hearing in court in August.

Youngstown State University Police Chief Shawn Varso tells 21 News that Schialdone has been with the campus police since October 2012.

Schialdone has been placed on foot and bike patrol at the University according to Varso.
