The Campbell City Police Department will soon have a new layout.

City council approved a measure Wednesday night to eliminate the position of Lieutenant from the ranks.

The department currently only has one Lieutenant, Kevin Sferra, who is acting as police chief.

Council says they won't cut out the position until Sferra moves up or on.

“The current Lieutenant will be able to retire from that position if he chooses to do so. There will be no other Lieutenants after his retirement,” said Mayor Nick Phillips. “We have four Detective Sergeants and then they created the Lieutenant position on top of that. Was it a necessary position? We don't have enough manpower to constitute this many ranking positions.

Mayor Phillips says the move will save the city money. The city is also expecting to swear-in a brand new police chief on Friday.
