Teenage vandals could be responsible for an incident at the church hall on Laird Avenue in Youngstown early Thursday morning.

Youngstown Arson Investigator Kurt Wright tells 21 News that there was no Molotov Cocktail thrown at the church hall as first suspected.  Instead, he believes the culprits took construction debris from a nearby dumpster, attempted to set it on fire and pushed it through the window.

The Serbian Hall is owned by the "Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church," that is also located on Laird Avenue.

Church officials say they in no way believe that the church was targeted, and they want their parishoners and neighbors in the area to know there was virtually no damage.

George Mirich is the President of the Congregation of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, and he tells 21 News, "They broke a little vent window here. They reached inside and there was some toilet tissue sitting in here and they probably caught it on fire and threw it in here. It smoldered in here on a utility table."

Sources say there were bicycle tracks around the window and in the parking lot of the Serbian Hall, and authorities suspect it may be the same teenagers who set a dumpster fire near the hall a couple of weeks ago.

Father Bosko Stojanovic is the pastor at the church and he says, "We think and police think it's kids. We don't think it's aimed against the church or against the community. We don't want to make a big deal of it, we're going to let police do their investigation and we're going to keep doing what we do."

The church wants to emphasize that their Friday fish fry will go on as scheduled beginning at 3:30pm.
