It’s no secret support for the Youngstown State football team has dropped considerably from the 1990s.

Much of that has to do with winning, but perhaps this team under second year coach Bo Pelini has turned the corner.

The Penguins host Wofford this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. "I'm excited to be at home. Hopefully we can fill Stambaugh Stadium and hopefully get the community out and watch some good football. I'm excited, excited as I get," said a laughing Pelini at his weekly media session.

Starting quarterback Hunter Wells echoed Pelini’s sentiments. "We're really excited for this game Saturday. We really hope that people come out. It means a lot to us. We'd love to see the Castle packed again. We see all the pictures from the 90s when they were rolling."

The winner of the Wofford vs. YSU game plays the winner of Richmond vs. Eastern Washington game in the national semi finals.  If Eastern Washington wins, they'll host.  If Richmond wins, then it comes down to the highest bid. Bids we're made before the playoffs started.

As of Tuesday morning, Penguin fans purchased about 3,500 tickets to Saturday's FCS quarterfinal matchup.

Tickets are available in person at the YSU Athletic Ticket Office at Stambaugh Stadium from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets also are available by calling 330-941-1YSU or online at by following this link.
