GIRARD, Ohio - Since Interstate 80 is a very busy highway, especially for trucks, the truck accident caused a lot of headaches for motorists traveling through the area.

The detour took eastbound traffic off interstate 80 at the Salt Springs exit and sent them to interstate 680 and then north on the 711 connector to the Gypsy lane exit. Then they had to go up Belmont to get back on 80 there.

Traffic was stop and go the entire way and it was hard on people who didn't know where they were going or why.

"It's horrible for a truck driver especially when you have to find an alternate route. It will take 2 hours or so before we can get on our normal route," said one truck driver.

Tina Goebel, a salesperson from Cleveland says, "This has been totally ridiculous! There's no signs, no nothing. This has been going on for over an hour, re-routed on 80. What the heck? No one's given any help on what to do or where to go, nothing!"

Other drivers tried to take the whole detour in stride, knowing the accident could have hurt someone.

"It ain't too bad, what are you gonna do? It's all part of the job," said one driver.  Another said, "It's an inconvenience but it's understandable."

Emergency crews in Girard had their hands full trying to get cars and trucks off of 80 in the accident area. The mayor says it was difficult because the ramps there had already been closed due to construction.

"We have our fire department at 422 and interstate 80 with the closure letting some people back track off the ramp, The eastbound ramp they are heading west off of it," said mayor James Melfi.
