Grove City College landed a spot on the Campus Pride “Shame List,” along with 101 other college campuses across the country.

Campus Pride describes the Shame List as a list of “the absolute worst campuses for LGBTQ Youth.”

The list, which is released annually, includes campuses that openly discriminate against LGBTQ youth in policies, programs and practices.

Campus Pride says they have spent the last six months compiling a database and researching all public records related to anti-LGBTQ policies, programs and practices at these campuses.

To be placed on the Shame List, the campuses would have to either received and/or applied for a Title IX exemption to discriminate against LGBTQ youth or have demonstrated a past history and track record of anti-LGBTQ actions, programs and practices.

Campus Pride said Grove City College was put on the list because it presented an “ex-gay” speaker in its chapel service, which students are required to attend. A copy of the speech can be found here.

Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Jacquelyn Muller at Grove City College says that the students are not required to attend any specific chapel program.

Grove City College is blessed to be an extraordinarily welcoming and safe campus for all of our students and employees. It is among our top priorities to cultivate a caring community that stands in stark contrast to the toxic attacks so common in today's culture. Love and respect for all people are uncompromising core values that are rooted in our Christian convictions. We also affirm the primacy of religious freedom which is protected by the U.S. Constitution and serves as a foundation of Western Civilization.

Grove City College students are not required to attend any specific chapel program. Rather, they have the flexibility to attend a minimum of 16 events of their choosing from more than 50 events scheduled this fall.

This is the first-time Campus Pride has released a listing of the worst anti-LGBTQ campuses across the country.

Every year Campus Pride releases a "Best of the Best" listing highlighting college campuses with the most inclusive LGBTQ-friendly policies, programs and practices.
