Father Greg Maturi is out of the hospital and back at St. Dominic's Church after the motorcycle he was riding, hit a pickup truck on Market Street on Wednesday.

'I'm doing much better," said Maturi. "It was a slight concussion, they kept me overnight for observation."

Maturi says it would have been much worse if he wasn't wearing a helmet.

"I always wear a helmet, it's crazy not to," he said.

Riding for more than 20 years, Maturi hopes his story will alert car drivers and motorcycle riders to be more alert when sharing the roadway.

"When I drive, I generally assume people don't see me and that people are not acutely aware of motorcyclists," said Maturi.

OSP says the simplist thing people can do is pay attention.

"I hate to say that a motorcycle rider needs to pay more attention than a car driver but unfortunately when your driving a vehicle where there really is no protection surrounding you, it is something that should be foremost in your mind," said Sgt. Philip Robinson.

Sergeant Robinson also suggests motorcycle riders wear a D.O.T. approved helmet, eye protection, visible clothing and take a safety course.

"I understand that people don't see motorcycles, so motorcycles, motorcyclists also have to be very careful about how they do, how they drive and I think that its a combined effort," said Maturi.

Efforts that could end up saving a life.

While chatting with Father Maturi, he also told us that his last day at St. Dominic's will be August 26th. His replacement has been chosen and will start then. Father Maturi says he is set to take a sabbatical before going to another church.
