Black bear struck along Champion highway
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the carcass of a black bear was found along State Route 82 early Friday.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the carcass of a black bear was found along State Route 82 early Friday.
It's believed the animal was struck by a passing vehicle just west of Mahoning Avenue shortly after 6 a.m.
ODNR Division of Wildlife spokesperson Jamey Emmert tells 21 News that the bear weighed approximately 240 pounds, and is estimated to be two or three years old.
The bear was taken to ODNR offices in Akron where an examination of the stomach contents will be conducted to find out any additional information about the animal.
Officials have extracted a tooth that they hope will give them a better approximation of the age of the bear.
Emmert says the bear had an ear tag placed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
A spokesperson for the Game Commission says bears are usually tagged either for research, or because they are a nuisance.
Emmert says ODNR will reach out to the PA Game Commission to see what information is available about the animal.
