Authorities in Warren have determined that waste oil seeping into the Mahoning River is coming from a business about one mile away.

Investigators say a broken hose from a tank at WTR Services on West Market Street was behind the leak that caused an oily sheen on the river from Perkins Park to as far down river as Niles.

The Ohio EPA was also called to the scene after the resident of a high rise apartment spotted the oil at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say that drinking water is not threatened by the spill.

Trumbull County Hazmat crews have placed booms onto the surface of the river to stop the flow of the spill.

Fire officials say by 5pm up to 95% of the oil was cleaned and removed.

Enzo Cantalamessa, Director of Services and Safety, says the company will likely have to foot the bill.  "At the very least made to pay the clean up costs and the costs associated with all the personnel and the resources and the manpower you see out here today."

They don't know yet how much that will cost nor do they know just how many gallons of waste oil was released.  They do know the maximum the tank could store was 1000 gallons but they don't know how much was in it.

The EPA is still investigating the company.

In March,100 gallons of hydraulic fluid from the Wheatland Tube Plant leaked into the river in Warren.
