A standoff with police ended with an arrest shortly after the noon hour on Thursday in a usually quiet Boardman Township neighborhood.

Police and a SWAT were stationed outside a home on the 100 block of Terrace Drive. The area had been cordoned off with police tape.

Authorities say the incident began when they attempted to serve an arrest and search warrant on 39 year-old Rana Smith.  Smith was charged with menacing by stalking stemming from an incident on April 16.

According to police records, Smith allegedly exchanged words with her neighbors and spit and swore at them.  Police were called to that scene last Saturday and cleared it, only to be called back shortly after, when Smith's son allegedly fired shots at a neighbor's vehicle and house.

Records also show police have been called to Smith's home in the past for reports of her swearing at neighborhood children as they rode their bikes.

In addition to the menacing by stalking charge, Smith is also facing charges of obstruction of official business and endangering children. Police say two of her own children were in the home at the time of the standoff.

Smith was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after her arrest.  She will be booked into the Mahoning County Jail while she awaits her initial court appearance.
