Mahoning Co. Sheriff and OSHP warn of distracted driving dangers

Whether it's texting while driving or even checking on your kids in the back seat, law enforcement officials want to make sure you're not the next victim of distracted driving.
The Ohio State highway patrol and Mahoning County Sheriff's Office teamed up in honor of distracted driving awareness month.
According to O-S-P In 2014, there were nearly 18 thousand crashes caused by distracted driving.
44 were deadly, and more than 5 thousand caused injuries.
Officials Says while distracted driving is harder for police to enforce, it's just as dangerous and deadly as drunk driving.
"I've worked midnights for years they do the same thing that drunks do is they're swerving all over the road and then you get up closer and you can see that glare on the face so texting is a big thing or being on the phone period," said OSHP Sgt. Brad Bucey.
Officials also brought a shocking reminder of the dangers of distracted driving to the event, the remains of a car after a distracted driving crash last year in Ashtabula.
