Warren traffic stop turns up AK-47, drugs
The Warren Police Department seized cocaine, heroin, marijuana and three guns, including an AK-47, over the weekend.
Warren police made two traffic stops over the weekend that lead to four weapons-related arrests, including one involving an AK-47.
Those two stops also turned up cocaine, heroin and marijuana.
Police say they were sent to a home on Belmont Street Northwest Saturday afternoon because they received a report that a person with an AK-47 was threatening a female.
When police arrived at the home they said they saw a teal GMC Yukon leaving the driveway that they believed had the suspect in it.
Reports say they conducted a traffic stop of the Yukon and found an AK-47 in the back seat with one live round in the chamber.
During the stop 21-year-old Deante Sanders, of Michigan, exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away, according to police reports.
Police say they searched the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Dreyan Richardson, and found a .38 Special Taurus Revolver and five live .38 bullets in his pockets. Police also seized 1 gram of marijuana and $29 in cash from the driver.
A search of the other passenger Darius Blackwell, 19, turned up a small bag containing what police suspect to be heroin.
Sanders and Blackwell are each being charged with one count of improper handling of firearms in a vehicle.
Richardson is being charged with carrying concealed weapons and possession of marijuana.
Early Saturday morning Warren police conducted a traffic stop on Washington Street for a broken license plate light.
Police discovered the passenger of the vehicle, 34-year-old Deltonio Dorsey, had two warrants out for his arrest. Dorsey was arrested and police seized $323 from his right pants pocket.
Officers say they asked Doris Brantley, 30, the driver, to exit the vehicle and put her hands on top of the car.
Brantley told police she would not put her hands on the car and that she did not want to be searched. Officers told her they wanted to check her for weapons.
Reports say officers attempted to search Brantley four times. Each time she walked away from officers.
Officers arrested Brantley for obstructing official business. When she began walking to the police cruiser, a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol fell out of her pant leg. The gun had three live rounds in it.
Police asked her if she had anything else on her, and she told police they would find it because it was going to fall from her pants.
Police shook Brantley's pant leg and a large bag fell. Police say the bag contained 21 rocks of cocaine and another bag filled with 22 pieces of aluminum foil. Police tested the foil and found they contained heroin.
Brantley is being charged with tampering with evidence, carrying concealed weapons and two counts of aggravated trafficking.
