An off duty Boardman police sergeant was at the right place at the right time Wednesday evening.
Sergeant Brian Habeger was driving down Washingtonville Road in Green Township just after 5:30 p.m. when he saw smoke coming from a nearby home, according to the Green Township Fire Chief.
The Green Township Fire Department responded to the fire. The fire was contained by 6:00 p.m.
The Chief says the fire was started by a heat lamp that was used to keep 12 ducks warm inside a plastic container. The ducks died as a result of the fire. No one else was in the home.
The front of the house received the most of the damage, totaling close to $30,000.
