Long time Trumbull County Sheriff Tom Altiere will not be returning to the office when his current term is up.

After 22 years in the job, Altiere lost the Democratic Primary race to challenger Paul Monroe on Tuesday.

The current Howland Police Chief defeated the incumbent by getting 53% of the vote.

Since there is no Republican challenger, and no one has filed to run as an independent candidate in November, Monroe will become the next county sheriff.
