If you want an up-close look at all the new cars and trucks, including the next generation Chevrolet Cruze, they are all shined up and on display at the 2016 Cleveland Auto Show.

The 2016 Cruze was in the spotlight at the Chevrolet pavilion as General Motors touted the many new features of the next generation Cruze. The Mahoning Valley was well represented at the event, including leaders of the auto workers at Lordstown, the home of the Cruze.

"To be the focal point of the Cleveland Auto Show and highlight our members and the hard work they do everyday, I couldn't be prouder," Glenn Johnson, President of UAW Local 1112 said.

The new Cruze is lighter, larger and loaded with new technology, including simple smartphone integration.

"Bring your Apple phone or your Google based phone, plug it into the car, and you see what you're use to seeing on your phone," said Jim Dimond, Cruze Launch Engineering Manager.

And the connectivity doesn't stop there. The Lordstown plant manager says new technology makes the 2016 Cruze even more family friendly.

"Don't forget the 4G LTE network, so you can get in the car, your kids can get in the car, and everybody can power up and stay connected as you drive," Plant Manger, Steve Notar Donato said.

The Cruze is larger and that means more rear seat leg room. An all new turbocharged engine gives the Cruze a horsepower boost up from 138 to 153. But it still gets better than 40 mpg highway. Creature comforts include available heated rear seats and steering wheel, and auto dimming high beam headlights.

Advanced safety features include Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert.

"GM is doing a great job of listening to the customers and giving them what they want," said Rob Morales, President of UAW Local 1714.

The new and improved Cruze is will arrive in dealer showrooms this spring, and valley dealers at the Cleveland event say they can't wait.

"We think our customers will love it, so we want it yesterday," Doug Sweeney of Sweeney Chevrolet said.

The Cleveland Auto Show runs through March 6 at the IX Center.
