A woman is going to prison for smuggling narcotics to a federal inmate in Columbiana County.

Kasey Crouse, 27, was sentenced on Friday to seven months in custody after pleading guilty in 2015 to providing contraband to an inmate.

In May 2014, Crouse provided Suboxone strips to her husband, who is incarcerated in the Federal Correctional Institution in Elkton. Her husband admitted she brought him the narcotics after they were discovered during a search.

A sentencing memorandum written by Crouse's attorney says a combination of Crouse's drug addiction and her husband's incarceration left her penniless. Crouse says she gave him the narcotics because she was desperate for money.

Crouse openly admits to using heroin at the age of 13 and engaging in prostitution at 15 to support her addiction, according to the report.

After release from prison, the sentencing judge ordered that Crouse be placed on probation for three years.
