Embalmed head found in Pennsylvania may have Ohio connection
The discovery of an embalmed head is a bizarre case that's been a mystery in Beaver County, Pennsylvania for the past year.
Now authorities believe there is an Ohio connection.
The severed head was discovered in a wooded area off of Mason Road in Economy Borough back on December 12, 2014.
Police still don't know her name or when she died, but they're hoping new information in the case will generate fresh leads.
Michael O'Brien is the Chief of Police for the Economy Borough Police Department, "Her identity is the priority of this investigation. She deserved to have her name put to her face. Once that identification is made we can move forward in this investigation."
Authorities in the community located just 15 miles northwest of Pittsburgh say at the least the crime of abuse of a corpse was committed. The severed head had it's eyes removed, but it's unclear why.
Teri Tatalovich-Rossi is the Beaver County Coroner, "Her eyes were removed and replaced by red rubber balls, whether it be by innoculation or other means."
Now after consulting with more than 20 agencies nationally and internationally authorities have learned the victim is a white female, over the age of 50. They also believe she died of a cardiac event.
And most recently they did what's called Isotope testing. To find out what geographical area this woman may have lived in, and they say her last three months may have been spent in the Ohio area.
Testing on her hair and enamel on her teeth helped determine that the elements in her system were unique to central Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio.
A photo of how the victim would have looked today... And an age regression photo were made to depict what the woman may have looked like in her 30's.
