Former Youngstown State head football coach Jon Heacock has been named the interim head coach at the University of Toledo.
He's the only member of the Rockets staff with Division I head coaching experience.
Former UT coach Matt Campbell left to take over the Iowa State program.
Heacock will coach the Rockets in their upcoming bowl game. They'll find out on December 6th who and where they're playing.
Heacock won 60 games as the Penguins’ boss and was the Gateway Conference Coach of the Year twice.
After leaving YSU, he served as defensive coordinator for two seasons at Kent State. He spent one year at Purdue as their secondary coach before joining Toledo in 2014 as their defensive coordinator.
Toledo Athletic Director Mike O'Brien says the search for a new head coach to replace Campbell begins immediately.
