Rubble is all that is left of a Youngstown home where the bodies of a little girl and her grandparents were found following a purposely set fire last March.
Triple A Diamond Excavation volunteered its services on Monday to tear down the Powers Way home, where 10 year-old Corinne Gump and her two grandparents, 63 year-old William and 61-year-old Judith Schmidt died in a fire that has been ruled as an arson.
A judge ordered the demolition after neighbors complained about the stench and rats at the home.
Demolition was delayed because the defense for suspect, 46 year-old Robert Seman of Greene Township, wanted to send their own investigators to gather evidence.
The South Range student was killed on the same day that Seman was scheduled to go on trial for allegedly raping the little girl when she was as young as four years-old.
Relatives, who where on the scene during the demolition, were able to have crews halt the process so they could retrieve toys, drawings and other keepsakes that belonged to Corrinne.
Workers managed to salvage Corinne's toy chest, some drawings and the family china cabinet.
Lee Ann Reda, Corinne's aunt, says "It's very important for Ethan, Corinne's father. He wants to get some mementos out of the house. It will help him heal. anything he could hold on to. 13.58 it's going to take a long time for all of us to heal."
Christine Seman, Corinne's other aunt, says "The house holds a lot of memories for me and my family because we live just right down the street and the Schmidts were really good people but since this has happened passing this every day has cause a lot of heartache and anxiety so we are glad to see it come down."
Neighbors say it's an emotional day for them as well.
Jean McCammon, says "It's kind of mixed emotions today. Joy I feel that Judy, William and Corrine will finally be at peace. It will start to ease the pain in my heart for the tragic loss of my friends."
