The former St. Joseph School will soon be demolished to accommodate a future Sharon Regional hospital expansion.
Sharon Regional Health System says clearing the property, which lies immediately east of the hospital, will free up 3.85 acres of land.
According to Jason Roeback, Sharon Regional's CEO, the hospital is currently reviewing a variety of options for the property.
The original St. Joseph School was built in 1890 with additions made in 1930 and 1954.
The school's last year of classes was 2010, and Sharon Regional Health System acquired its property three years later.
Sharon Regional says that demolition and site preparation at the former school is expected to begin within a few weeks and be completed by the end of the year.
