Police identify two Amish teens who drowned in Wilmington Twp. creek
Police in Pennsylvania have identified the two teenagers whose bodies were found in a creek along the county lines of Mercer and Lawrence Counties.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police 15 -year-old John Mast, of Mercer, Pa., and 16-year-old Seth Byler, of New Wilmington, accidentally drowned around 3:30 this afternoon in the Little Neshannock Creek in Wilmington Township.
The Chaplain for the New Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department, Rebecca Rosengarth, told 21 News that the boys had gone swimming in the creek with a friend.
Information from the Pennsylvania State Police says the two teens were wading near a 8-10 foot hole when they drowned.
According to police, siblings of the two boys attempted to rescue them.
Police confirmed to 21 News crews on the scene just before 7 p.m. that the bodies of two teens had been recovered from the creek.
Rosengarth said first-responders had difficulties with the water since it was so murky, and shallow in some places, and deep in others.
According to Rosengarth, first-responders initially used a length of rope to skim the water. Once a dive team was called to the scene, an underwater camera was used to locate the bodies of the two teenagers.
State police say that further examination will be conducted, but there is no indication of foul play at this time.
