Western Reserve Road scheduled for resurfacing

New road resurfacing projects is welcome news for drivers in Mahoning county.
After tons of patchwork, the county engineer says funding has been authorized for the re-paving of Western Reserve Road between Tippecanoe and Hitchcock Road.
"It's going to be just about a million dollars, said engineer Patrick Ginnetti. We had to come up with a 20-percent local match, the monies were actually for next year but we were given authorization to go out for bids now, so that was good news for us," he said.
That same section of Western Reserve was paved less than ten years ago. It runs through a wetlands area and has been subject to flooding.
The engineer says the main problem has been water seeping under the roadway.
"I think in this case the sub base was saturated, and with all the car movement and truck movement on there I think it just broke the asphalt up much sooner than it should have," Ginnetti said.
The new paving should be done by September, and people who travel Western Reserve can't wait.
"We live in Canfield and we've been going around down route 224, so I'm happy that it's finally going to be paved, it's great, Andrea Sage of Canfield said.
Bob Mead of Greenville said, "They need to finish that area right there for sure, I bounce around on it,".
There is more good news. Mathews Road, which was a pot hole nightmare after the wrath of winter, is also scheduled for re-surfacing between Southern Blvd all the way to Youngstown-Poland Road.
The engineer says bids also are going out for work on a stretch of Mahoning Avenue.
"From Meander Reservoir to the intersection, then Lipkey road from Mahoning all the way to County Line. There will be some drainage improvements and some paving done over there as well," Ginnetti said.
That project also is slated for completion this fall.
