A man wielding a gun was shot on a Butler Township street by Pennsylvania State Police troopers Sunday morning.
Police say 24-year-old Sam Wheeler had threatened relatives with a rifle and a knife.
When troopers arrived on scene Wheeler was allegedly seen carrying the "carbine-type rifle" on Bessemer Avenue.
Officers say Wheeler was then given orders to drop the weapon, which he ignored.
Officers then fired their weapons, shooting Wheeler in the hand or forearm.
Wheeler reportedly fled the scene but was captured and taken a Pittsburgh hospital.
Wheeler faces charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, assault of law enforcement and more.
The troopers involved in the shooting have been temporarily placed on administrative duties.
