The man convicted of gunning down a Youngstown resident outside his home has been sentenced after pleading guilty to a reduced charge.

29-year-old Walter Drake was sentenced on Thursday to 12 years in prison for the shooting death of Dione Weatherspoon two and a half years ago.

Weatherspoon was just 24-years-old when he was shot in the driveway of his Hilton Avenue home in June 2012.

Drake was originally charged with aggravated murder, but the charge was reduced to voluntary manslaughter through plea bargaining.

Drake was sentenced to nine years for the voluntary manslaughter charge. Another three years was added to the sentence because he used a firearm in commission of the crime.
