Youngstown Christian School announces name change

The Valley's largest 'non-parochial' private school has announced that some changes are coming, and it's not just their name.
Youngstown Christian School revealed on Thursday that it is formally changing its name to Valley Christian Schools.
School President Michael Pecchia stated “We believe that Youngstown is the hub of the Mahoning Valley, so this is about being inclusive to the more than 15 surrounding school districts we currently serve as well as reflecting a broader vision for the future”.
The graduating class of 2015 will be the last class to graduate from Youngstown Christian School.
In addition, school officials revealed a 5-year strategic plan they say is designed to address four initiatives:
- Expansion
- Student Outcomes
- Staff Development
- Facilities.
Over the past ten years the school's enrollment has doubled. In the last two years, they have opened two Early Childhood Learning Centers and the Lewis School for Gifted Learning Potential. The plan calls for continued expansion including more campuses throughout the Valley, new comprehensive programs and services, and 21st Century delivery methods.
School officials say the plan also calls for investment in teachers who are equipped to provide an optimum teaching and learning experience for students. “Valley Christian Schools will continue to develop a cutting-edge faculty who hold high expectations for student achievement and who are called and committed to our mission,” said Valley Christian Schools' Academic Dean, Dr. Joshua Reichard.
The plan addresses plans to expand and renovate the main campus on Southern Boulevard and to develop an outdoor athletic facility.
Last year the school invested nearly $600,000 in additional classroom space, renovations and technology infrastructure at the main campus.
