Doors closed on Bottom Dollar food stores

All Bottom Dollar food stores are now closed.

The discount chain announced late last year that they were bought out by the Aldi grocery stores, which is retiring the Bottom Dollar name.

112 people were employed at the three Bottom Dollar Stores in Youngstown and one in Warren.

It's still unclear what Aldi's plans to do with the vacant buildings in Youngstown.

Youngstown Director of Community Planning and Economic Development T. Sharon Woodberry hopes to know the plans by March.

The city has asked the company to gift the structures to the city, if Aldi doesn't plan to open new stores.

Aldi already operates seven stores in the area, including locations in Boardman, Youngstown, Austintown, Salem, Warren, East Liverpool and Hermitage.
