A former Howland woman convicted of murdering her husband will likely spend at least another five years in prison.

Parole has been denied for 56-year-old Marie Poling, who is serving a 20-year-to-life sentence in the Ohio Reformatory for Women for her part in the 1987 murder and dismemberment of her husband Richard.

On Tuesday, the Central Office Board Review rejected parole for Poling, saying that there is substantial reason to believe that due to the serious nature of the crime, her release would create undue risk to the public safety, or would not further the interest of justice or be consistent with the welfare and security of society.

Poling was only 29 when she and her lover killed Richard Poling as he slept. The two then chopped off the husband's head and spread his body parts over Ohio and Pennsylvania.

She was convicted of aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse.

Poling has been in prison since 1988. Her next parole hearing isn't scheduled until December 2019.
