Additional parking for Youngstown State University will be available after a vacant building, purchased by the university, is demolished.

The structure is a former union hall on West Rayen Avenue that YSU bought in 2010.

Facilities Director John Hyden says the university has not found a suitable use for the nearly 50 year old building, so it will be demolished.

“We'll use it for over flow parking for the time being and it could be that at some point we're going to want to expand permanent parking in that area,” Hyden said.

The property is already fenced off and equipment is on site to begin the demolition on Monday.
