Jail inmate sentenced for death of Youngstown man

A Mahoning County jail inmate has been sentenced to seven more years behind bars for the death of a Youngstown man.
23-year-old Kevon Williams has already spent three years in jail as he awaited trial on charges of murder, felonious assault and abuse of a corpse.
Williams was indicted in 2013 after investigators said he was responsible for the death of David Jackson, whose skull was discovered by a dog on Vaughn Avenue nearly two years ago.
Jackson had been reported missing in December 2012. Prosecutors claimed that Williams shot Jackson, and then attempted to hide the remains, which were so badly decomposed, dental records were needed for identification.
As his trial was getting ready to get underway on Monday, Williams reached a plea deal with prosecutors.
Williams was allowed to enter a so-called Alford plea to the less serious charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Under an Alford plea, a defendant in effect maintains his or her innocence.
Williams was sentenced to ten years in prison, but he was given credit for the three years already served.
