Youngstown State made it official Tuesday afternoon. Eric Wolford is not returning as the head football coach.

Athletic Director, Ron Strollo said in a press conference it was his decision to part ways with the fifth year coach.

"At the end of the day, the expectations here are the playoffs, and its that simple. We've continuously talked about it. Eric understood those expectations and the kids understand those expectations and we weren't able to turn the corner," Strollo said.

Wolford's record was 6-10 in the month of November and his teams have closed out the past two seasons with three game losing streaks. Only a couple thousand fans were at the games and there were no playoff appearances and that all played into Strollo's decision.

"Our attendance at some of those games wasn't close to what we would expect here. I think you can see these attendance figures across the country and falling that way," Strollo said.

For the second time in Strollo's tenure, he needs to find a football coach and knows he needs to get it right this time.

"We'll look at all levels, assistant coaches to head coaches, everything is on the table. In my position, you're always tracking coaches, it's kind of a part of the business and knowing who's out there, these coaches might be at different places in their careers. So, people pop in and off those lists, this time your phone goes crazy, you add new names," explained Strollo.

A nationwide search for the new coach is already underway.
