People in Youngstown are watching part of the downtown history crumble before their eyes. The roof of the former Wean building began to tumble on Tuesday as demolition crews removed one of the supporting walls.
Gearmar Properties has been carrying out a phased demolition of the building on South Phelps Street for several months now.
Upon completion of the demolition, the city of Youngstown plans to use the property for purposes of economic development.
The building was once used by Wean United to manufacture equipment for the steel industry.
