A towering plume of smoke coming from a Girard company could be seen for miles around Thursday afternoon.
Fire officials said a fuel tank may have sparked the fire at a metal scrap facility, near state Route 422 in Girard.
A pile of scrap parts from recycled cars and trucks caught fire at Interstate Shredding.
It took all of Girard's manpower to battle the blaze. The Liberty Fire Department was on stand-by in case any other fires broke out in the city.
No one was injured.
