Austintown schools: Old makes way for the new
AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Workers use heavy equipment to dismantle the remaining bricks and steel that were once Lloyd Elementary school.
Since it was built in 1955, and until its closure this past spring, the building at Fitch and Norquest Boulevard played host to hundreds students experiencing their first day of school.
The Austintown school system is now demolishing Lloyd, along with Davis and Woodside elementary schools.
Students are now attending the new Austintown Elementary School, which opened this school year alongside the new Austintown Intermediate School.
Both schools, which cost $50 million to build, are located on the Austintown school campus on Idaho Road near Fitch High School and Austintown Middle School.
The new school complex will be dedicated as part of the Awesometown events on October 6.
A ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the parking lot between the two schools.
An open house for both schools will be held from 1:30 p.m. Until 4:30 p.m.
