Brookfield operating levy passes by one vote

BROOKFIELD, Ohio - The school's operating levy has passed by one vote.
The results were certified by the Trumbull County Board of Elections on Tuesday afternoon, but the one-vote margin will trigger an automatic recount.
On election night the 4.85 mill levy was approved by just three votes, but this morning several absentee and provisional ballots had to be factored in.
The Brookfield District is just thankful for the community support since the district is in fiscal emergency.
"This operating money will certainly help reduce that projected deficit," says Superintendent Timothy Saxton. "It will be most likely two, if not four, years before we are removed from fiscal emergency."
Saxton feels voters recognized that the district has already made some necessary cuts.
The continuing operating levy will generate more than $600,000 a year.
