Mahoning County Board of Elections new office and new voting plan

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio  -  Mahoning County's Board of Elections has officially moved to a new location and with it comes a new way, or should we say old way to vote in November.

The board has proposed a plan where electronic touch screen voting will now take a back seat to the paper ballot.

When you walk in to a voting precinct to cast your votes in November's general election you will be handed a paper ballot with all of the issues and candidates listed and you will use a pencil to mark your selection.

Once you are finished casting your votes you will insert the ballot in to a scanner that will immediately count your vote.

Mahoning County Board of Elections Director Tom McCabe says, "It's the old paper back system.  But instead of counting it on election night back at the board of elections, these ballots will actually scan right at the precinct so if a voter makes an error on the ballot, their ballot will be kicked out, destroyed in their presence and they will have the opportunity to vote again."

The new system is expected to be faster in tabulating vote totals and it will leave a paper trail for officials to refer back to if a vote is in question.
