Conneaut coaster labeled 'historic'
CONNEAUT LAKE, Pennsylvania- A group of rollercoaster connoisseurs were in western Pennsylvania Thursday to designate an amusement park favorite as a historic landmark.
The American Rollercoaster Association bestowed the honor on Conneaut Lake Park's Blue Streak coaster.
More than 100 members of the 6,000-member organization toured the park and will donate thousands of dollars towards reopening and preserving the rollercoaster.
Conneaut officials estimate it will take approximately $100,000 to replace the track and get the coaster up and running again.
Tim Lisko from the park said wooden coasters have a unique feel to them.
"The wood, you sit up in the front has a different effect than the back, it's a different ride every time you ride it. Wooden coasters have their own nature and own feel to it," Lisko said.
Park officials are trying to have the ride reopened some time in July.
