Former Canfield daycare employee found guilty in child spanking case

CANFIELD - A former Canfield daycare employee has been ordered to pay a fine after she was found guilty in a case that involved her spanking a child at work.
According to court records, 27-year-old Delaynie Meade was found guilty of a minor misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Court documents state that the court found her guilty after hearing the attorneys' arguments and reviewing a video of the incident.
"The child portrayed in the video was visibly attempting to stop [Meade's] actions by bracing herself, using her hand to stop [Meade's] conduct and using her blanket for protection. These are actions typical of any human who finds itself subject to physically offensive conduct. These are also actions typical of any human who faces a risk of physical harm," the filing reads.
The filing goes on to state that Meade had no lawful reason or purpose to spank the child.
Meade was ordered to pay a $150 fine, as well as court costs.
The incident occurred in June of 2025 and was captured on a video taken by one of Meade's coworkers, who reported it to management. Meade was fired after the incident.
Columbiana County Municipal Court Records show that Meade had been charged in the past with child endangering. She was convicted of a lesser charge of disorderly conduct in that case.
