Youngstown siblings indicted on federal firearms charges

A federal grand jury has indicted a Youngstown brother and sister on multiple firearms charges, according to documents filed in federal court.
David Poyssick is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. His sister, Becky Poyssick, is charged with one count of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
According to the indictment, David Poyssick, who was previously convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Youngstown Municipal Court in 2009, possessed firearms and ammunition on two separate occasions in February and March 2025.
The indictment alleges that on or about Feb. 11, 2025, Poyssick possessed a Canik 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and ammunition at a target range in Austintown.
A month later, he allegedly possessed a Springfield Armory 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a Palmetto State Armory multi-caliber semi-automatic rifle, an H&R 12-gauge shotgun, a Smith and Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, and ammunition.
Becky Poyssick is accused of making a false statement when purchasing a Springfield Armory 9mm semi-automatic pistol from a Boardman sporting goods store. The indictment alleges she falsely represented herself as the purchaser when she was allegedly buying the firearm for David Poyssick.
The indictment also includes a forfeiture count, seeking the forfeiture of all firearms and ammunition involved in the alleged offenses.
An affidavit filed in support of a criminal complaint states that an FBI agent saw David Poyssick handling a firearm at the shooting range. The agent says he recovered a receipt bearing David Poyssick’s name and listing the purchase of 9 mm ammunition.
The affidavit also stated that a background check revealed David Poyssick had a prior domestic violence conviction and a firearms purchase denial.
The document said that an ATF Special Agent determined that the ammunition possessed by David Poyssick traveled in interstate commerce.
David Poyssick has been in the Mahoning County Jail since his arrest on March 14.
