Body 'completely frozen' found in East Liverpool house
The Columbiana County Coroner is working to determine if the recent freezing weather played a part in a death in East Liverpool.
Responding to a request from a concerned caller, an East Liverpool Police Officer went to a home at 725 Lincoln Avenue to investigate after the body of a 39-year-old man had been found in a home with no heat during single-digit temperatures Tuesday afternoon.
In his report, the officer says he found the man’s frozen body on the floor of the home. A pipe had burst into the kitchen and water was gushing into the home’s basement.
A friend said it had been four days since anyone had seen the victim, who had been suffering from pneumonia. Police could not tell how long ago the man died.
Police say the body, which was clad in a hoodie, coat, jeans, and boots, was “completely frozen” and laying among trash scattered in the house.
The officer found a crack rock in the coat pocket.
The man’s pit bull terrier was found upstairs with no food or water, possibly suffering from hypothermia. The officer said the dog’s nose was bleeding and was so thin, he could see its bones through his skin.
The dog has been turned over to the dog warden.
The coroner tells 21 News that the cause of the man’s death will be available in two or three weeks after testing is completed.
