Youngstown council member discusses the future of waste-to-energy plant
Last month Youngstown city council members voted in favor of a delaying the SOBE Thermal Energy plant project for another year, in hopes of preventing it from happening permanently.
During a townhall meeting Saturday afternoon at the Newport Library on Market Street in Youngstown, Councilwoman Anita Davis made it clear that the fight to stop the controversial project in Youngstown is far from over.
"This is going to be fought out in the courtroom. That's the avenue," Davis told 21 News adding, "I want to see if we have to get any kind of injunction down the road."
The council woman is committed to protecting Youngstown from the project that she says is an experiment. But at this point it is unclear what legal strategies the city can pursue to stop the company from moving forward.
The city law department issued 21 News a statement which included the following: "While we will not comment on any current or possible litigation, we will always explore all options on the table when it comes to advocating for the residents of Youngstown."
